Get to Know Chapel Hill, NC

Anyone heard of the little Chapel on the Hill? It used to sit where the Carolina Inn now resides. Chapel Hill was formed to help support the nation’s oldest university (UNC Chapel Hill), which began in 1793. This community is rooted deeply with traditions and stories. Some to check out: the old well, the stone walls, Old East (the original building for the campus), Franklin Street (named after Benjamin Franklin), the Morehead Planetarium (one of 6 planetariums nationwide when it was built in 1949) and so many more.

Today, Chapel Hill is a bustling university town with over 50,000 residents. There are many high-tech and health businesses located there. The University still remains the largest employer.
